WEB DESK: A blast at a mosque within a school complex in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, injured at least 54 people on Friday, according to local police chief Asep Edi Suheri. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
Initial reports indicate that 54 individuals were affected, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate, while some have already been discharged, Asep told reporters.
During a televised press briefing, police suggested several potential causes under consideration, including an electrical short circuit, a malfunctioning electronic device, or a homemade explosive.
Most of those injured suffered minor wounds, largely from glass fragments and the shockwaves caused by the explosion.
Witnesses reported that the blast originated from the rear section of the mosque’s main hall, prompting worshippers to flee in panic, according to the Jakarta Globe.
