KARACHI: University Road in Karachi will remain closed from November 10 to December 30 due to the launch of a new initiative under the Karachi Water and Sewerage System Improvement Project (KWSSIP), as announced by officials on Sunday.
Authorities stated that this closure is crucial for laying water pipelines under the K-4 supply scheme, with a 2.7-kilometre stretch set to be installed between NIPA Chowrangi and Federal Urdu University.
In the first phase, construction will focus on the section from NIPA Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University, while the second phase will include work extending from Hasan Square to NIPA Chowrangi. KWSSIP officials confirmed that both phases aim to complete the installation of 96-inch and 72-inch water pipelines by the December 30 deadline.
To manage traffic flow, vehicles will be redirected from NIPA Chowrangi towards Aladin Park via an alternative route, according to authorities.
Officials called on commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate throughout the ongoing development work. This project is part of the broader K-4 water supply scheme, which seeks to enhance Karachi’s water distribution infrastructure.
Meanwhile, commuters along University Road continue to endure challenges caused by old and damaged roads, compounded by the unfinished multibillion-rupee BRT project that has remained under construction for over three years.
