ISLAMABAD: A legal case has been filed against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) following the circulation of videos on social media allegedly maligning national security and state institutions.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the complaint was lodged by a sub-inspector from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) at the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad.
The incident stems from Afridi’s statements during a media interaction outside Adiala Jail, where he allegedly made false and inflammatory remarks targeting state institutions. These comments were subsequently disseminated through the official social media platforms of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The FIR accuses Afridi of producing and propagating misleading and provocative material online, intended to incite unrest, foster hatred, and propagate anti-state sentiments, thereby jeopardizing Pakistan’s security and societal harmony. The matter is now under investigation by NCCIA Sub-Inspector Waseem Khan.
In response, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly criticized Afridi for his remarks against the armed forces, describing them as a display of “profound ingratitude” towards those who have made ultimate sacrifices for the province.
Emphasizing the unparalleled dedication and sacrifices of the armed forces, Naqvi remarked that both the nation and the global community acknowledge their contributions in restoring stability and peace.
He concluded by urging Chief Minister Afridi to issue a public apology for his controversial remarks, which he said incited division and hostility against the country’s security forces.
