Dar urges SCO to prioritize the activation of financial mechanisms and expedite efforts toward economic integration.

WEB DESK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday underscored the importance of fostering regional economic integration among Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states by adopting key financial mechanisms to support connectivity and development efforts.

Speaking at the 24th meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) in Moscow, Senator Ishaq Dar stressed the need to strengthen economic collaboration, build partnerships with non-member countries, and modernize the SCO to efficiently address shifting global and regional challenges.

His address focused on driving cooperative efforts and enhancing the responsiveness of the SCO to meet current and future demands in a rapidly evolving international context.

Ishaq Dar urged greater emphasis on innovation, partnerships, and deeper integration among member states to establish a lasting legacy of shared progress that benefits the wider region.

At the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow, he highlighted the organization’s readiness to advance regional cooperation, particularly in managing emergency situations and fostering humanitarian initiatives.

He noted that Pakistan has developed a technology-driven, proactive disaster management system and expressed interest in organizing simulation exercises with SCO partners to strengthen disaster preparedness across the region.

Dar proposed the activation of financial tools to boost trade and economic activities, urging effective use of existing instruments like the SCO inter-bank consortium for financing connectivity and technical collaboration projects.

Highlighting the importance of youth investment, he called for significant expansion of the SCO University Network into a collaborative hub for applied knowledge. This, he explained, would facilitate student exchanges and joint research programs in areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, agriculture, water resource management, and telemedicine.
