KARACHI: Authorities in Karachi have launched a new plan to curb illegal floors and unauthorized portions, imposing an immediate ban on the sale, purchase, transfer, and transaction of all illegal constructions in the city.
The move comes after officials identified rampant violations in various neighborhoods, prompting strict directives from the Deputy Commissioners of Karachi East and South.
In District East, areas such as Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Soldier Bazaar, PECHS, Mehmoodabad, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal are under scrutiny, while the crackdown in District South targets Lyari, Garden, and the Old City Area. Officials highlighted that several real estate agents and property dealers have been promoting illegal portions, a practice already declared unlawful by the High Court.
The administration has warned that any violation of the directives will be treated as a criminal offense. Realtors and property dealers are strictly prohibited from advertising or facilitating transactions involving unauthorized floors, and sub-registrars have been directed to reject any registration or sub-lease of illegal properties. Arrests and legal action will be taken against violators to regulate Karachi’s construction landscape.
This crackdown builds on the Sindh Building Control Authority’s July 2025 action plan, which outlined the demolition of all illegal and under-construction buildings. Property owners will bear the cost of demolitions, with unpaid charges recoverable through tax liabilities. Officials stress that the initiative aims to protect citizens and ensure compliance with building regulations in the port city.
