LAHORE: By-Elections held across 13 constituencies resulted in a decisive victory for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which claimed 12 seats nationwide.
The party dominated by winning six National Assembly seats and securing six out of seven Punjab Assembly constituencies, leaving just one seat for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). A significant upset occurred in NA-18 Haripur, where PML-N’s Babar Nawaz Khan triumphed over a candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
PML-N completed an uncontested sweep of all six National Assembly seats it contested. The most notable surprise was witnessed in NA-18 Haripur, where Babar Nawaz Khan defeated PTI-supported Shehrnaz Umar Ayub, garnering 163,996 votes compared to her 120,220 votes, delivering a major political blow to the PTI.
National Assembly voting was held in the constituencies of NA-18 Haripur, NA-96 Faisalabad, NA-104 Faisalabad, NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal, and NA-185 D.G. Khan. Meanwhile, provincial assembly elections took place in PP-73 Sargodha, PP-87 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad, PP-115 Faisalabad, PP-116 Faisalabad, PP-203 Sahiwal, and PP-269 Muzaffargarh.
These seats became vacant due to the disqualification of several lawmakers over cases linked to incidents arising from the events of May 9.
To ensure security during the by-elections, personnel from the Pakistan Army were deployed on duty.
