ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) has strongly opposed the 27th constitutional amendment. During a press conference in Islamabad.
JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman recalled that the 26th amendment had been introduced some time ago, during which negotiations with the government were active. He noted that PTI was also involved in discussions at the time, and their suggestions were taken into account.
The JUI-F leader criticized the government for overlooking his party’s input on the 27th amendment, emphasizing the importance of engaging with opposition parties as part of their democratic responsibility. He underscored the necessity of addressing key issues before embarking on constitutional reforms.
He firmly rejected the 27th amendment, declaring that it contributes neither to strengthening the Constitution nor to promoting public welfare. He accused the government of attempting to undermine judicial independence with this amendment.
Reaffirming the constitutional directive for parliament to legislate in alignment with Quranic teachings and Sunnah, he stressed his obligation to uphold these principles. Additionally, he claimed that international agreements were pushing Pakistan into submission, alleging that the country’s leadership was complicit in enabling such external control.
Drawing on the historical fight against oppression in the subcontinent, he stated that legislation of this nature cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
