ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that Pakistan has made significant progress on the macroeconomic front.
Speaking at an event in Islamabad today, he highlighted advancements across various sectors, including cement, fertilizer, automobiles, mobile phones, and large-scale manufacturing.
The minister stressed the need for structural reforms to set the country on a trajectory of sustainable economic development. He detailed steps already undertaken, particularly in taxation, energy, and other key sectors.
On the subject of rightsizing, he noted that fifty-four thousand vacant positions had been eliminated as of September 30th, resulting in annual savings of fifty-six billion rupees. Additionally, he mentioned the merger of ministries and the closure of organizations such as the Utility Stores Corporation.
Touching on global challenges caused by geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, and supply chain shifts, the minister highlighted the importance of building fiscal and external reserves to withstand external shocks, emphasizing that Pakistan must adapt alongside other nations.
