ISLAMABAD: Anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday issued a proclamation declaring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub as a proclaimed offender in connection with the October 4 protest case.
Presiding over the hearing against the former opposition leader, ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra instructed authorities to gather details of Ayub’s assets and also directed the blocking of his passport and national identity card.
The case against Ayub stems from charges filed at Police Station Noon, involving anti-terrorism provisions for his participation in the October 4 protest.
The PTI, previously serving as the ruling party, organized a march towards the federal capital as part of a broader series of demonstrations. These protests highlighted demands for judicial independence and called for the release of its founder, Imran Khan, who has been detained in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for over a year.
Tensions surged during these demonstrations, which escalated into violent encounters between protesters and law enforcement agencies. Both parties claimed that the opposing side triggered the clashes.
