Chaudhary Aslam’s widow criticizes Bollywood over ‘propaganda’ in ‘Dhurandhar’

WEB DESK: Bollywood’s forthcoming espionage thriller, Dhurandhar, is facing renewed criticism. The widow of Karachi’s well-known encounter specialist, Chaudhary Aslam, has warned the filmmakers against portraying her late husband inaccurately.

The film has been under the spotlight since its trailer was unveiled, drawing attention for being inspired by real events and its depiction of Lyari, one of Karachi’s oldest neighborhoods.

In the spy thriller, Sanjay Dutt takes on the role of Aslam alongside Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan in significant roles.

Chaudhry Aslam’s wife, Naureen, has expressed her readiness to pursue legal action if the film misrepresents her husband or portrays him in an unfavorable manner.

Naureen has decided to hold off her final judgment until the movie’s release in India on December 5. However, she took offense to a specific line in the trailer referring to Aslam as “the child of the devil and a jinn.”

She emphasized that such language is disrespectful, not only towards Aslam but also his mother, whom she described as an honest and simple woman from their Muslim faith.

Naureen firmly stated that if her husband is wrongfully depicted or any propaganda is evident in the film, she will take all possible legal measures.

She also cast doubt on the movie’s portrayal of Lyari criminals, challenging the characterization of Rehman Dakait as a “big terrorist,” pointing out that he was primarily involved in crimes like extortion and kidnapping.

Chaudhary Aslam was widely recognized for his crackdown on Lyari gangsters and militants. He was assassinated on January 9, 2014, in a car bombing orchestrated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban on the Lyari Expressway.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is slated for theatrical release on December 5.
