KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet has approved a one-year extension for the deployment of Rangers in Karachi, ensuring their continued assistance to local law enforcement.
According to the Chief Minister of Sindh’s spokesperson, the Rangers will retain their powers under the Anti-Terrorism Act to support police operations. The new term for the Sindh Rangers will commence from December 9, 2025.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. In addition, the cabinet approved a revision of water tariffs related to the DHA pipeline project, reducing the rate from Rs. 0.85 to Rs. 0.60 per gallon. This new rate was finalized after negotiations between Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSC) and DHA, with the payment period remaining at ten years.
The cabinet also endorsed a carbon finance strategy aimed at redeveloping brownfield sites. The Energy Department proposed the development of solar parks and wind farms on obsolete industrial zones to promote renewable energy.
Furthermore, the cabinet approved upgrading various waste disposal sites and transforming Jam Chakro into a state-of-the-art landfill. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that landfill and biogas projects should be executed based on scientific principles to ensure environmental sustainability.
