Maryam Nawaz calls for elevating Pakistan-Turkey trade to $5 Billion  

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met with Turkish Grand National Assembly member Burhan Kayaturk in Lahore and expressed her pleasure at his visit, describing it as an honor for the city.  

During their discussion on Monday, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to increase bilateral trade between Pakistan and Turkey to a target of $5 billion.  

She highlighted that Burhan Kayaturk’s visit reflects the strong bonds of brotherhood, shared history, and deep-rooted trust that tie the two nations.  

Maryam Nawaz noted that amid shifting regional dynamics, the relationship between Pakistan and Turkey continues to grow stronger, underpinned by a collective commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity.“Pakistan and Turkey have supported each other through every crisis, humanitarian challenge, and environmental catastrophe. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s unwavering solidarity with Pakistan is a testament to their enduring friendship,” she stated.  

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that both nations have consistently championed the principles of justice, sovereignty, and human dignity.  

She praised Turkey’s outspoken stance on issues like Palestine, describing it as a source of confidence for the entire Muslim Ummah.  

From Kashmir to Gaza, the hearts and principles of Pakistan and Turkey remain aligned.  

She proposed expanding cooperation into areas such as climate policy, local governance, digital innovation, and youth empowerment, which could add new dimensions to the partnership.  Additionally, Maryam Nawaz suggested naming a proposed economic zone the “Recep Tayyip Erdogan Special Industrial Zone” to honor the Turkish leader’s contributions.  

The Chief Minister also briefed Kayaturk about Punjab’s ongoing development initiatives, including the Punjab Clean Air Programme, AI Forest Protection Force, and the Punjab Climatory Observatory.  

In response, Turkish MP Burhan Kayaturk praised the construction of 140,000 homes as a milestone achievement, highlighting the progress made under the current leadership.
