ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has issued a weather warning about an expected spell of rain and snowfall starting today.

District administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures to handle potential emergencies arising from the changing weather conditions. Concerns have been raised about possible landslides and road blockages in hilly and mountainous regions, particularly in areas like Swat, Dir, Chitral, and Mansehra, where earlier heavy rains had already destabilized slopes.

Residents and tourists have been advised to minimize travel to affected regions during this period. Those planning visits to northern valleys or mountain terrains are encouraged to stay updated with real-time weather reports and comply with instructions from local authorities.

The PDMA has also directed relevant departments, including rescue and relief agencies, to maintain readiness for swift responses to incidents such as flash floods or landslides. Emphasis has been placed on keeping roads accessible, especially those linking remote communities that often face isolation during severe weather.

Residents have been reminded to prepare their homes by securing rooftops and ensuring proper drainage to prevent water logging. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly in low-visibility and slippery conditions.

According to Pakistan’s meteorological office, this weather event marks the onset of early winter in the northern regions—an annual period typically marked by increased risks of landslides and transport disruptions.

Last year, similar weather patterns caused temporary road closures in areas such as Malam Jabba, Kalam, and Naran, affecting transportation and tourism. The PDMA is coordinating with the Meteorological Department to monitor developments closely and ensure timely communication of weather updates.
