ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed appreciation for his government’s economic team and the Chief of Defence Forces for their significant contributions in successfully advancing the country’s reform agenda, following the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) approval of a $1.2 billion tranche under the current program.
In a statement, the Prime Minister commended the crucial support and leadership provided by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in guiding the reforms that have been instrumental in Pakistan’s economic development.
He also lauded Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and his team for their relentless efforts, emphasizing that the IMF’s positive assessment of Pakistan’s progress underscores their expertise and commitment.“The release of this tranche demonstrates Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to implementing the structural reforms necessary for economic stability and sustainable growth,” he said.
He further highlighted that navigating the country away from the threat of default and onto the path of stability and progress has been an arduous journey—one made possible through the collective efforts of political parties prioritizing national interests over politics, and the economic sacrifices made by the Pakistani people.
The Prime Minister viewed Pakistan’s ongoing economic reforms and digitization initiatives as a shining example for the international community. “Insha Allah, Pakistan’s vision of economic prosperity will soon become a reality,” he added.
Shehbaz emphasized that with stability now achieved, the focus must shift toward growth, which demands continued dedication and hard work.
“As the servant of Pakistan, I will keep striving until the country attains prosperity and is free from foreign debt. The day is not far when Pakistan will rid itself of debts and become fully self-reliant economically,” he concluded.
