LARKANA: Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the transformative progress in Sindh’s health sector following the 18th Amendment.
Speaking at the convocation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University on Monday, Bilawal applauded the graduating students, urging them to commit themselves to serving the nation in their professional lives.
Bilawal underscored the undeniable significance of education, referring to Larkana as much more than a city calling it a powerful symbol of resistance against oppression.
PPP Chairman encouraged the graduates to work for the betterment of humanity without prejudice, acknowledging that during epidemics, doctors and nurses have consistently acted as frontline warriors.
Bilawal highlighted that enhancing the healthcare system has been a primary focus for Sindh’s administration.
He explained that the 18th Amendment paved the way for significant investments in healthcare, resulting in notable advancements.
He clarified that his aim isn’t merely to compete with other provinces but to achieve healthcare standards that rival global benchmarks.
He pointed out that free cardiac care is now available across Sindh, with modern medical facilities expanded to Karachi, Nawabshah, Jamshoro, Sukkur, and Larkana.
With support from partnerships such as the public-private collaboration with the ChildLife Foundation, emergency pediatric services have been introduced in every district. He praised Sindh’s Gambat Hospital, asserting its superior quality compared to many medical institutions in major cities nationwide.
Bilawal reiterated plans to expand healthcare access to underdeveloped districts and advocated for improved performance across other institutions as well.
In the context of education, Bilawal drew attention to Sindh’s remarkable progress over decades, noting the dramatic increase in universities. The province grew from having just one university before Pakistan’s inception to 16 by 2008, and now boasts 30 universities.
He shared ambitions to establish a university within every district of Sindh, facilitating greater access to education even in remote and underserved areas.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also addressed the ceremony, reflecting on Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s efforts to empower women and bridge societal disparities.
He affirmed the government’s commitment to advancing health and education initiatives, stressing that no society can prosper without prioritizing knowledge and learning.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized that reforms in Sindh’s health sector are ongoing, identifying young people as vital drivers of Pakistan’s future.
He expressed the belief that sustainable development is attainable only through education and research. He also noted Benazir Bhutto’s visionary proposal for the university back in 1989 and celebrated its eventual establishment in 2009 as a fulfillment of her dream.
