CJ Yahya Afridi promises continued judicial reforms in 2026

ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, reaffirmed the judiciary’s dedication to protecting fundamental rights, maintaining the rule of law, and delivering justice that is fair, unbiased, and prompt.

In his New Year message, Justice Afridi extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the people of Pakistan, members of the judiciary, legal professionals, and those who seek justice and reassurance from the courts.

He highlighted that the Constitution assigns the judiciary the vital responsibility of ensuring not only that justice is done but also that it is perceived to be done. He emphasized that this duty gains particular importance when viewed through the lens of ordinary citizens who rely on courts with hope, trust, and vulnerability.

Calling for a citizen-focused judicial system, Justice Afridi stated that the upcoming year should be a time for reflection, reform, and a renewed dedication to putting citizens at the heart of judicial processes. He underscored that justice should be accessible in practice, conducted with dignity, and responsive to the needs of women, children, marginalized groups, and those living in distant or underserved areas.

Looking ahead, he outlined key priorities, including implementing meaningful reforms to enhance access to justice, minimize delays, promote transparency, and harness technology to boost judicial efficiency. He emphasized that these initiatives should aim for tangible results such as timely rulings, clear procedures, and courts that are approachable and compassionate.

Expressing confidence in the judiciary’s potential, Justice Afridi conveyed that through collective effort, professionalism, and integrity, the judiciary can continue to build public trust and uphold the constitutional values.

He reiterated the judiciary’s unwavering commitment to serving all citizens with fairness, independence, and empathy, expressing hope that the coming year would foster greater confidence in the rule of law and a justice system that reaches every community and individual.
