ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has served a show-cause notice to Shafi Jan, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following his controversial statements about Forms 45 and 47.
The notice, issued in response to claims made during a broadcast on the Charsadda Journalist YouTube channel, accuses Shafi Jan of spreading false information regarding the Haripur by-election.
The ECP has demanded a detailed explanation from Jan, along with evidence to back his claims, within a seven-day period. According to the commission, his comments were misleading and lacked any factual foundation, presenting an attempt to undermine public trust in the institution. The ECP emphasized that any failure to respond within the designated timeframe could lead to further legal consequences.
The notice also stressed the importance of maintaining transparency in the electoral process, particularly when it comes to Forms 45 and 47, which are vital for ensuring the accuracy and credibility of election results. In support of its claims, the commission has provided both the video clip and a transcript of Jan’s remarks as part of the official notice.
