ISLAMABAD: Twelve members of the Gilgit-Baltistan caretaker government officially assumed office on Tuesday during an oath-taking ceremony at the Governor House in Gilgit, marking the start of the interim administration in preparation for upcoming assembly elections.
In the governor’s absence, Nazir Ahmed, Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, performed the duty of administering the oath to the twelve newly appointed ministers.
The caretaker cabinet selection had been approved four days earlier by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, clearing the path for the temporary government to assume responsibility and oversee governance until the election process concludes.
According to officials, the interim cabinet, working alongside the caretaker Chief Minister, is tasked with managing administrative and governance functions until the assembly elections take place.
In addition to the sworn-in ministers, the interim setup includes two advisors, expanding its capacity to ensure the smooth continuation of governance during the pre-election phase.
The event, held at the Governor House in Gilgit, was attended by numerous dignitaries and prominent personalities. Among those present were the caretaker Chief Minister Yar Muhammad, former Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, and other significant figures from the region.
With the swearing-in ceremony complete, the caretaker administration has officially taken control in Gilgit-Baltistan. Officials emphasize that its primary focus will be maintaining stability and impartiality as the region prepares for its elections.
