ISLAMABAD: A distinguished delegation from Pakistan’s Senate, led by Deputy Chairman Senator Syedal Khan Nasar, is scheduled to visit the United States from January 20 to January 25, 2026,
According to the Senate Secretariat. This move marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and the United States, representing the first-ever formal parliamentary engagement under the auspices of the US Congress.
The upcoming visit, organized by the Pakistan Policy Institute USA, is notable for including the Pakistan-US Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) for the first time—an achievement viewed as a major breakthrough in both strategic and non-traditional parliamentary diplomacy. The initiative underscores a mutual commitment to strengthening democratic institutions through direct dialogue between elected representatives.
The timing of this visit is particularly significant amid ongoing regional and global shifts, especially in South Asia and the Middle East, where parliaments are increasingly recognized as vital platforms for fostering dialogue, stability, and democratic governance.
According to the Senate Secretariat, the visit has clear strategic goals, such as establishing a lasting institutional framework for ongoing dialogue between the US Congress and Pakistan’s Senate. The delegation aims to promote democratic ideals, share legislative expertise, improve parliamentary oversight, and deepen institutional cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic channels.
In addition, the programme includes engagement with the Pakistani-American community to share Pakistan’s perspectives on regional and international issues, along with initiatives to enhance scientific, cultural, and policy collaborations.
This visit is being hailed as historic because, in Pakistan-US relations spanning 77 years, no parliamentary delegation from Pakistan has previously conducted formal engagements within the Rayburn House Office Building under US congressional auspices.
The schedule features a press conference and media interactions at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., as well as community and policy receptions in New Jersey.
The Senate Secretariat emphasized that this visit aims to lay the foundation for ongoing parliamentary exchanges, foster legislative cooperation, and build a sustainable partnership based on mutual respect, democratic values, and strategic interests.
