WEB DESK: Pakistan’s men’s cricket team is set to face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series in Dambulla, scheduled for January 7, 9, and 11 as part of their preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The series holds significant importance for Pakistan as the national selection committee aims to finalize the 15-member squad for the global event, as highlighted in a PCB press release. Since Pakistan will play all their World Cup matches in Sri Lanka, the series offers a crucial opportunity to adapt to local conditions and fine-tune strategies.
Salman Ali Agha continues as captain of the T20I side, following successful campaigns that saw Pakistan clinch two tri-series tournaments and defeat Bangladesh, West Indies, and South Africa in bilateral T20I series during 2025.
Historically, Pakistan has had strong performances against Sri Lanka in T20Is, winning three of their last five encounters. Notable victories include triumphs in the knockout stage of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai and the tri-series final in Rawalpindi.
In the pre-series media briefing, Salman Ali Agha emphasized the importance of this bilateral clash:
“This series presents an excellent chance for everyone to prove their mettle. Competing here before the World Cup allows us to familiarize ourselves with these conditions, which is a big advantage. We have promising players in our squad who hold great potential for the future. Giving them opportunities is a priority, and I am optimistic they will deliver impactful performances.”
The finalized 15-member squad for the series includes: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmad, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Khawaja Nafay , Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan (wk), and Usman Tariq.
