Balochistan cabinet unveils electric Bike scheme with 30% subsidy, flexible payment plans

QUETTA: The Balochistan Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, convened on Friday to approve several strategic projects aimed at enhancing the province’s economic, social, and administrative frameworks. Key among these initiatives are an electric bike subsidy scheme for the public and a broad-based health insurance plan for government personnel.

During its 21st session at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the cabinet sanctioned the launch of the Electric Bikes Program, which will offer students, working women, and government staff electric bikes at a 30% discount. The public will also have the option to purchase these bikes via easy installment plans. The scheme is set to be executed through bank financing to maximize participation from citizens.

The cabinet acknowledged that around 250,000 government employees in Balochistan face annual medical expenses totaling approximately Rs6 to 7 billion. To address this, approval was granted for a comprehensive health insurance scheme designed to provide transparent and sustainable healthcare services for government workers.

Additionally, the cabinet approved audits of advance medical payments and the Public Endowment Fund, aligning with existing policy structures.

In an effort to promote youth entrepreneurship and economic independence, the cabinet approved extending the Enterprises Development Program to the districts of Gwadar, Kech, and Awaran, thereby creating more opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

The decision reaffirmed that all government appointments would be made solely on merit, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to good governance and transparency.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti emphasized that the health insurance scheme would improve healthcare access for employees, while the electric bike initiative would offer affordable transportation options for people from diverse backgrounds. He also stated that expanding the Enterprises Development Program would help steer youth toward financial stability and self-reliance.
