WEB DESK: Kit Harington has expressed his frustration over the backlash surrounding the highly debated finale of “Game of Thrones”.
In an interview with The New York Times, the 39-year-old actor discussed the public’s reaction to the eighth and final season of the series, which aired in 2019 during his time in rehab.
Harington, known for his role as Jon Snow throughout all eight seasons, shared his discontent, particularly regarding a petition that demanded HBO recreate the last season with what fans described as “competent writers” in place of showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The petition garnered over 1.8 million signatures.
He expressed his anger, stating, “That genuinely infuriated me. How dare they? Honestly, that’s just how I feel. It represented a level of absurdity that only social media could provoke.”
The final season sparked intense discussions about major plot points, including Jon Snow killing Daenerys Targaryen, Bran assuming the throne, and Arya departing from Westeros.
Despite the criticism, some fans redirected their energy into positive action. A fundraiser for Emilia Clarke’s charity, SameYou, was launched to show support and gratitude toward the cast and crew. In contrast, Charles Dance, who portrayed Tywin Lannister in earlier seasons, revealed he shared the disappointment of many fans and admitted he would have signed the petition for a redo himself.
