PM reiterates support for foreign Investors, tech collaborations

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s ongoing dedication to fostering an environment conducive to foreign investment and strategic technological partnerships.

He engaged with a delegation from Ericsson during a meeting in Islamabad today. The delegation was headed by Mr. Patrick Johansson, President and Head of Market Area for Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Ericsson.

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for Ericsson’s long-term commitment to Pakistan, noting that the company’s presence in the country spans over sixty years and has significantly contributed to the growth of Pakistan’s telecommunications industry. He praised Ericsson’s role in advancing the sector and highlighted the importance of such investments for national progress.

The discussions centered around the critical role of next-generation digital connectivity—such as 5G—in driving economic development, enhancing productivity, and improving public service delivery. Shehbaz Sharif underscored Pakistan’s interest in leveraging Ericsson’s extensive global expertise in cutting-edge networks while prioritizing secure and resilient infrastructure aligned with national priorities.

Further topics of discussion included collaboration on digital literacy, promoting financial inclusion, expanding cashless payment systems, and harnessing technology to bolster disaster management and institutional resilience.

The Ericsson representatives commended Pakistan’s efforts to upgrade its IT infrastructure, including recent initiatives like the 5G spectrum auction, and expressed their support for the country’s digital transformation journey.
