WEB DESK: China has begun the second phase of its 6G development trials following the successful completion of the initial phase, which resulted in a collection of over 300 critical 6G technologies, according to an official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Zhang Yunming, the vice minister of MIIT, highlighted that the overall volume of telecom services grew by 9.1% compared to the previous year, with the industrial and information sectors contributing more than 40% to the nation’s economic expansion.
By mid-2025, China is projected to lead global 6G patent filings, accounting for approximately 40.3% of all applications, based on data from the China Internet Development Report 2025, produced by a national research institute affiliated with the Cyberspace Administration of China.
Unlike 5G, which primarily enhances mobile connectivity, 6G is expected to deeply integrate sensing, computing, and artificial intelligence,
extending wireless coverage beyond terrestrial boundaries to include airspace, outer space, land, and maritime regions. Ministry spokesperson Xie Cun emphasized that China now boasts the world’s largest information infrastructure, featuring over 4.8 million 5G base stations and more than 1.2 billion 5G users.
The deployment of 5G across various industries is accelerating rapidly. More than 23,000 “5G + Industrial Internet” projects have been launched, covering areas such as unmanned mining operations, intelligent port management, and fully automated factories that function without human presence, even in complete darkness.
The synergy between 5G technology and artificial intelligence has significantly boosted industrial productivity. For example, a home appliance manufacturer that adopted a “5G + AI” industrial vision inspection system reported a 275% increase in per-worker production efficiency.
