ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Somalia have entered into an agreement that removes the visa requirement for holders of diplomatic passports.

The accord was signed in Islamabad in the presence of President Asif Ali Zardari. During the ceremony, President Zardari met with Somalia’s Interior Minister, Ali Yousuf, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to deepen relations with African nations, particularly Somalia.

The President highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Somalia in areas of mutual interest and reiterated Islamabad’s support for regional and global initiatives aimed at combating transnational crime and drug trafficking.

Somalia’s Interior Minister praised Pakistan as a trusted ally and longstanding friend, noting that Pakistan has stood by Somalia since its independence. He also paid tribute to Pakistani peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving in United Nations missions in Somalia during the 1990s, underscoring their sacrifices under the UN flag.
