WEB DESK: Following similar reports in Indian media, a cricket-focused website has claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to replace Bangladesh with Scotland for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to be hosted in India.
According to the report, Scotland has been slotted into Group C, where it will compete alongside Italy, Nepal, West Indies, and England.
Sources within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have reportedly confirmed that the ICC has communicated this development to them. In response, the BCB has convened an emergency meeting to review the unfolding situation.
Bangladesh had earlier declined to tour India for the tournament, pointing to security-related concerns as well as the omission of pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Earlier this week, the BCB sent another formal letter to the ICC, submitting its case to the Dispute Resolution Committee and requesting that Bangladesh’s World Cup fixtures be shifted outside India.
Previously, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had made it clear that it would stand by its decision not to send the national team to India for the T20 World Cup.
As of now, the ICC has not issued any official confirmation regarding Scotland’s participation in the tournament.
