LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken swift action to curb the distribution of unsafe medicines by banning 10 substandard drugs across the province.
The Director-General of the Drug Control Programme has issued a directive to all field drug inspectors to strictly enforce the ban and prevent these medicines from being sold.
Among the drugs declared unsafe is a batch of Escitalopram, a medication used to lower the risk of heart attacks. Additionally, allergy medicines Sepizine and Rosin have been prohibited, along with Canadiens cream used for skin infections, which has been found to be harmful.
Other banned items include Nafin eye drops, which were used to treat eye conditions, and Sterile Water for Injection PSOL 2 ml. Several injections—Metrorise, Metrine, and Cetamin—have also been classified as unsafe for use.
The DG emphasized the importance of removing all existing stocks of these medicines from pharmacies and directed inspectors to ensure compliance with the ban immediately.
