A.J.KASHMIR: People from Jammu and Kashmir, including those living on both sides of the Line of Control and in the global Kashmiri diaspora, are observing Accession to Pakistan Day today.
The occasion is being marked with events and statements recalling the resolution adopted on July 19, 1947, and expressing support for the political aspirations associated with it.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, representatives of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference adopted the Accession to Pakistan Resolution during a meeting held at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Srinagar’s Aabi Guzar area. The resolution called for the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir to accede to Pakistan.
On the occasion, several Hurriyat leaders and organizations appealed to the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to increase diplomatic efforts regarding the Kashmir dispute. They urged international bodies to address alleged human rights concerns and support a peaceful resolution in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
Earlier, Pakistan also called on the United States to encourage India to improve the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to release political detainees. During a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi referred to the anniversaries of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, paying tribute to the two leaders and reiterating Pakistan’s position on developments in the region.
The spokesperson also referred to those who lost their lives during the funeral procession of Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq, stating that accountability for past incidents remains unresolved. He urged the international community, human rights organizations, and the United Nations to monitor the situation closely and support efforts toward a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
