Punjab govt approves plan for Maryam Nawaz sports city in Lahore

LAHORE: The Punjab provincial government has given the green light for the development of Maryam Nawaz Sports City in Lahore, including approval of its feasibility study. The ambitious project aims to create a state-of-the-art sports complex spanning approximately 300 acres, designed to meet international standards.

A recent high-level meeting reviewed the project’s budget, environmental considerations, and technical requirements. Construction is scheduled to begin once the feasibility study is finalized. The process will include a thorough survey of the site to evaluate land availability, accessibility, and geographical factors. Additionally, assessments of traffic flow, geotechnical conditions, and utility services will be conducted.

Environmental and social impact analyses will also be integral to the planning process, ensuring sustainable development. The master plan will detail all sports facilities, transportation networks, parking solutions, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure.

The envisioned sports complex will feature a variety of world-class amenities, including a multi-purpose outdoor stadium, an indoor multi-sport arena, and an Olympic-standard swimming pool. Other facilities will encompass a velodrome, squash courts, and courts for lawn tennis, padel tennis, and futsal.

Further features include an archery range, a versatile sports ground, and a dedicated sports institute. The project will also provide athlete hostels, administrative offices, commercial zones, and dining options. Infrastructure elements such as roads, parking, utilities, and landscaping will complete the comprehensive development plan for Maryam Nawaz Sports City.
