ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Friday that Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, will be relocated to the newly constructed Islamabad Model Jail within the next two months.
While visiting the ongoing construction site of the model jail, Naqvi stated that the facility is nearing completion and that Imran Khan will be moved there once it becomes operational. He added that the former Prime Minister is being provided all necessary facilities in jail and reaffirmed that his sentencing by the courts remains valid.
Earlier, Naqvi toured the under-construction Islamabad Model Jail and the new officers’ hostel at the National Police Academy, where he reviewed progress on key security and infrastructure projects. Officials briefed him that the jail, which had been in development since 2011, has now completed over 85% of Phase One and is expected to be fully functional within two months.
The new jail will feature advanced security measures, including double-layered walls, a digital surveillance system, and a centralized control room. During his visit, Naqvi expressed satisfaction with the construction quality and pace, emphasizing the importance of establishing a modern correctional facility in the capital. He directed authorities to expedite work through double-shift operations.
Naqvi also inspected the hostel designed for under-training Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), issuing directives to ensure high standards of accommodation for police personnel. He highlighted that the improved infrastructure at the National Police Academy will elevate police training standards across the country.
Senior officials, including Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi, Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, FIA Director General Dr. Usman Anwar, among others, accompanied the minister during the inspection.
