Two FIA immigration officers held in anti-corruption crackdown

ISLAMABAD: The action was taken by the agency’s Anti-Corruption Cell after allegations surfaced that certain passengers were being granted immigration clearance unlawfully. Director General Usman Anwar ordered an immediate inquiry into the matter.

The investigation was conducted by the Additional Director General (Immigration) along with the Islamabad Zone director. Following the probe, the accusations were found to be credible, prompting the registration of a formal case in Islamabad. The two officials were subsequently taken into custody, while four passengers were also named in the case.

According to investigators, one of the detained officers admitted during questioning that he had accepted payments from travellers in return for clearing their immigration process. He reportedly confessed to receiving bribes from at least 12 passengers within a single week.

DG Anwar reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, stating that no individual involved in malpractice would be spared. He stressed that maintaining transparency and internal accountability remains a top priority for the department.

Separately, the FIA disclosed that disciplinary proceedings are continuing against other officials over allegations of misconduct, abuse of authority and negligence. In a recent internal review held at FIA Headquarters, penalties were imposed on five officers found guilty of violating departmental rules.

Officials said the accountability drive reflects the agency’s broader efforts to strengthen oversight and restore public trust in immigration and law enforcement operations.
