Pakistan reaffirms commitment to enhance defense, economic relations with Qatar

DOHA: During his ongoing two-day official visit to Doha, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to bolstering defense partnerships and broadening bilateral cooperation with Qatar.

The PM discussed these priorities with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the historic and strategic ties between the two nations.

The leaders explored avenues for deepening military and security collaboration, expressing mutual appreciation for the professionalism demonstrated by the armed forces of both countries. Sheikh Saoud praised Pakistan’s military expertise and expressed Qatar’s desire to enhance defense cooperation further.

Regional stability was also a focus of discussions, particularly the situations in Iran and Afghanistan. Both officials highlighted the need for dialogue, de-escalation, and joint efforts to foster peace and regional security.The meeting exemplified Pakistan and Qatar’s shared intent to elevate their strategic alliance across various domains of mutual interest.

In a separate engagement, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, visited PM Shehbaz in Doha. The discussions centered on expanding bilateral trade, with a focus on increasing exports from Pakistan to Qatar, especially in agriculture, processed foods, and value-added sectors.

Both parties reviewed ongoing trade and economic initiatives, including follow-ups on the 6th Session of the Pakistan–Qatar Joint Ministerial Commission. They reaffirmed their commitment to executing the agreed-upon projects and decisions.PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment, mentioning the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in creating a conducive environment for investors.

Dr. Al-Sayed emphasized Qatar’s interest in deepening economic ties and strengthening private-sector collaborations. The two sides agreed to organize a meeting of the Pak-Qatar Joint Business Taskforce during Ramadan, involving relevant officials from both countries, to explore specific investment opportunities in Pakistan.

This dialogue underscored their mutual dedication to enhancing trade, investment, and industrial cooperation, further cementing the economic partnership between Pakistan and Qatar.
