Imran Khan’s sister Noreen injured after fall at Rawalpindi construction site

RAWALPINDI: Noreen, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, was injured after slipping and falling at an under-construction sewerage project near Dahgal Naka in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

While attempting to cross the site, Noreen lost her footing and fell into the excavation, sustaining injuries to her nose, hands, and feet. Rescue teams and bystanders quickly intervened, pulling her out of the trench and moving her to a safe area. A woman accompanying her also fell and was injured in the incident.

Noreen, along with her sisters and other women, had gathered at Dahgal Naka to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail. They were trying to cross the construction zone after police had halted their vehicle at the checkpoint. The family has been demanding to meet Khan inside the prison, especially as his health has become a contentious issue between the government and opposition groups like PTI and the TTP alliance.

A recent report submitted to the Supreme Court details Khan’s health concerns, revealing that he has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition. The report states that Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, is experiencing a significant loss of vision—up to 85%—in his right eye. The former Prime Minister has undergone two eye injections since beginning treatment and is scheduled for another dose soon.

Khan, aged 73, has been in jail since August 2023 following convictions that he and PTI claim are politically motivated. Since his removal from office in 2022 through a no-confidence motion, he has faced multiple legal cases related to state gifts and allegations of an unlawful marriage. Some of his convictions have been suspended or overturned, with appeals still pending. Khan maintains his innocence regarding all charges.
