MQM-P launches nationwide digital membership drive ahead of local polls

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has initiated a countrywide online membership campaign through its official website. Citizens can now register by filling out a digital membership form available on the party’s portal.

To energize the drive, MQM-P plans to hold a series of public gatherings across all Karachi neighborhoods. Party leadership is simultaneously fast-tracking preparations for the upcoming local government elections. Top officials will also conduct interviews to finalize candidates for municipal contests.

Earlier, on March 25, 2026, MQM-P urged the federal government to implement the 28th Amendment, emphasizing the need to devolve authority to local levels. The party described the move as vital to safeguarding Pakistan and transforming the current feudal-style governance into a more inclusive and participatory democracy.

Speaking at a press briefing in Karachi alongside central committee members, MQM-P Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui highlighted that Pakistan’s political system remains largely feudal. Drawing inspiration from Iran, he noted that the municipal governance system in Tehran has been a key factor in fostering national unity there.
