BANNU: Security forces killed two militants, including a highly wanted ringleader of Fitna al-Khawarij, during an intelligence-based operation in Bannu, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operation was launched after reports of militant presence in the area. During an intense exchange of fire, both militants were neutralized. Security personnel also recovered a suicide jacket, weapons, and ammunition from the site.
The ISPR identified the slain ringleader as Waheedullah alias Mukhtiar, who was on the most-wanted list and had been involved in multiple terrorist activities. The second militant was reportedly a suicide bomber.
According to the military’s media wing, Waheedullah was responsible for attacks targeting both security forces and civilians. He was also described as the main facilitator behind a suicide bombing in Bannu on February 21, 2026, which led to the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz.
The ISPR stated that the successful operation brought the key perpetrator to justice and avenged the deadly attack. It added that timely action by security forces helped prevent a potential major incident.
A clearance operation is ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants. The statement reaffirmed that security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eradicating terrorism under ongoing national efforts.
