French woman, children rescued in Bara after alleged domestic abuse case

PESHAWAR: Police in Bara have rescued a French national and her five children following allegations of long-term domestic abuse inside their home, officials said on Monday.

According to authorities, the woman informed police that she had been subjected to repeated mistreatment by her husband and was not permitted to leave the house independently. The children, one of whom is reportedly mentally challenged, were also found to be living in restrictive conditions.

Following the operation, police placed the woman and her children under protective custody and later shifted them to Peshawar for security reasons.

Officials confirmed that the Foreign Office has been notified of the situation, and diplomatic channels have been activated through the French Embassy to facilitate further procedures.

Police said the woman expressed her desire to return to France, and arrangements are currently underway in coordination with relevant authorities.

A case has been registered against the husband, and investigation proceedings have been initiated.

In her statement and FIR, the woman identified as Sylvia alleged that she and her children had endured abuse and confinement since 2014. She claimed they were denied basic freedom of movement and subjected to repeated violence over the years, leaving visible injuries and scars.

Authorities said legal action will continue as the investigation progresses and all necessary protective and diplomatic measures are being ensured.
