G.BALTISTAN: Amjad Hussain Advocate of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been elected unopposed as the new Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The announcement was made during a session of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, chaired by Speaker Imran Nadeem, No other candidates submitted nomination papers for the position, and all members present in the assembly supported Amjad Hussain Advocate’s candidature.
Amjad Hussain Advocate has become the fifth Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. He recently won the election from the constituency GB-A 1 Gilgit. He is also the President of the PPP Gilgit-Baltistan chapter.
He previously served as a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council from 2010 to 2015. In the 2020 elections, he secured victories in two constituencies.
The date for his swearing-in ceremony will be announced later.
Prior to this, PPP’s Imran Nadeem was elected unopposed as the new Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, while Nawaz League’s Kafayatul Rehman Advocate was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker.
Additionally, on the request of opposition members, Speaker Imran Nadeem declared Hafiz Hafeezul Rehman, President of the N-League Gilgit-Baltistan, as the opposition leader.
