ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting regional peace during a joint press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The high-profile media interaction came after a series of diplomatic engagements between the two countries and highlighted their shared vision for stronger political, economic, and strategic ties.
Addressing the gathering, President Pezeshkian described Pakistan as Iran’s “second home,” underscoring the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and brotherly relations that unite the neighboring nations.
Both leaders pledged to accelerate economic cooperation, reiterating their goal of increasing bilateral trade volume to $10 billion annually through enhanced connectivity, investment, and commercial partnerships.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for Iran’s constructive role in regional diplomacy and emphasized that dialogue and cooperation remain essential for resolving tensions and ensuring lasting peace in South Asia and the wider region.
The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and international developments, stressing the importance of unity among Muslim nations. They called for greater global efforts to address ongoing conflicts, support peace initiatives, and prevent further escalation in volatile regions.
Reaffirming their commitment to regional stability, Pakistan and Iran agreed to continue close coordination on issues of mutual interest while working to strengthen economic integration, security cooperation, and people-to-people contacts.
