PCB approves new central contract system, budget increases for players

ISLAMABAD: The 84th gathering of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Board of Governors, led by Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, took place in Lahore, focusing on financial plans and strategic decisions for the 2026–27 fiscal year, according to an official statement issued on Monday.

During the session, members unanimously endorsed the surplus budget for 2026–27 and approved the budget for PSL Season 12. The Board also sanctioned the move to grant PSL administrative and financial independence.

Significant budget enhancements were announced, including an increase in domestic cricket funding from Rs3 billion to Rs4 billion. The PCB also introduced a revamped central contracts framework and payment system, along with raised match fees for the national squad.

Specifically, the match fee for Quaid-e-Azam Trophy players was boosted from Rs30,000 to Rs100,000, with reserve players’ allowances rising from Rs15,000 to Rs50,000. 

The Board approved financial support for women’s One-Day and T20 competitions, increased the minimum salary for regional ground staff to Rs42,000, and allocated funds to develop 12 additional cricket grounds.

Furthermore, Rs6.7 billion was allocated for infrastructure improvements, including major upgrades at the National Bank Cricket Stadium in Karachi and the acquisition of biomechanics technology at Lahore’s High Performance Centre.

Javed Murtaza, the Chief Financial Officer of PCB, briefed attendees on the key financial details and projections for the upcoming year. 

Participants in the meeting included notable officials such as Anwaar Ghani, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Awan, Ismael Qureshi, Sajjad Khokhar, Tanvir Ahmad, and Adnan Malik. 

Representing the government and other agencies, Zaheer Abbas, Mir Hassan Naqvi, and additional officials also participated, alongside PCB operational leaders like COO Sameer Ahmad and PSL CEO Salman Naseer.
