ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) announced the confiscation of nearly 580 kilograms of human placentas at an airport, linked to an alleged organ smuggling ring involving Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
During a court hearing in Islamabad, the FIA requested a seven-day extension of the suspects’ physical custody to continue their investigation. The suspects, including three Chinese nationals, were produced before the court after their initial two-day remand, which was extended by one day.
The FIA official stated that the suspects were trying to export a shipment of around 30 cartons containing human placentas to Vietnam. The seized placentas are believed to be intended for the production of high-value anti-aging injections, which can fetch up to Rs700,000 each in Pakistan.
Sources within the FIA indicated ongoing investigations into possible complicity of waste management firms responsible for collecting medical waste from hospitals, as well as potential facilitation by customs officials in clearing the illegal shipment. Authorities are also probing suspected agents involved in the trafficking network across Lahore, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi.
