KHANEWAL: Religious scholar Nasir Madni was rushed to Nishtar Hospital after he collapsed and lost consciousness while delivering a Friday (Jumma) sermon in Jahanian, Khanewal district.
Hospital sources said Madni is believed to have suffered a heart attack and is currently receiving medical treatment. His condition has not been officially updated.
Madni recently drew widespread attention after making controversial remarks about actress Momina Iqbal, triggering strong criticism on social media.
Following the backlash, he withdrew his comments, saying that “daughters are daughters,” and later issued a public apology after receiving a Rs190 million defamation notice from the actress.
In a video message, Madni expressed regret if his remarks had caused pain to Momina Iqbal or her family, insisting that hurting anyone was never his intention. He also urged people to safeguard the dignity and respect of women, describing it as a collective responsibility.
The apology came after a video of his comments went viral online, prompting legal action led by the actress’s sister, Ramsha Iqbal. Madni subsequently released a public statement expressing remorse over the incident.
