LAHORE: Authorities probing the murder of PTI leader Chaudhry Abdullah Tahir have uncovered new evidence indicating that the assassination was carefully orchestrated, according to sources involved in the investigation.
Sources disclosed that the suspects in custody admitted the attack was premeditated, with drones being employed to track Abdullah Tahir’s movements and pinpoint his whereabouts prior to the shooting. The investigation suggests substantial funds were allocated for the drone monitoring operation. Officials are also scrutinizing reports of drone activity near the victim’s residence around the time of the incident.
Further details reveal that the attackers used a rented vehicle with a false license plate during the attack. The original registration was reportedly reattached immediately afterward to evade identification. The vehicle was rented from Gujranwala, and the main suspect, Arslan Jatt, allegedly transported the shooters from Gujranwala to Lahore in that same vehicle.
Six individuals have been detained in connection with the case, suspected of facilitating the murder, while the primary gunmen remain at large. Authorities are conducting multiple raids to apprehend the suspects involved.
Abdullah Tahir was killed on Wednesday while visiting a private clinic in Lahore for a routine check-up. During the attack, Dr. Riaz Khan was also injured by gunfire. According to police reports, two motorcycle-riding assailants launched a hail of bullets on Tahir in Lahore’s Gulberg area, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds that proved fatal.
A prominent political figure from Okara, Tahir had previously contested the 2018 Punjab Assembly elections on a PTI ticket. Police have filed a case and are actively pursuing leads to bring those responsible to justice.
