QUETTA: The Balochistan government announced on Tuesday a new policy to introduce supplementary examinations for Class 8 students, aiming to improve the education system and curb dropout rates. This initiative is part of ongoing reforms to ensure better learning outcomes and academic continuity.
As per a notification issued by the School Education Department, a Supplementary Middle Standard Examination will be implemented starting from the 2026 academic year. The move is designed to enhance educational standards and offer additional chances for students to clear their exams.
The department highlighted that the program seeks to assist students who struggle academically, prevent students from leaving school prematurely, and avoid losing an entire academic year. The supplementary tests will be organized annually in the first week of March by the Balochistan Assessment and Examination Commission (BAEC).
Students who do not pass one or more subjects in the regular Middle Standard Examination will be eligible to sit for the supplementary exam. Furthermore, students who fail to clear the Middle Standard Examination will be allowed provisional admission to Grade 9. However, it will be compulsory for these students to pass the supplementary exam to secure full admission into ninth grade permanently.
