KARACHI: The Karachi Bar Association has raised concerns over the ongoing investigation into the death of businessman Mir Raza Ali and has called for a transparent, unbiased inquiry.
The association stated that the case has been upgraded to include Section 302, classifying it as a murder investigation. They urged authorities to arrest all individuals involved and to ensure they are prosecuted according to the law. Additionally, the Karachi Bar demanded the removal of the previous investigation team from the case, insisting that the inquiry be free from interference, influence, or tampering with evidence.
The Bar emphasized the importance of impartial action against anyone directly or indirectly connected to the murder. They also called for an independent inquiry into alleged mishandling of the case and expressed full support and solidarity with Mir Raza Ali’s family.
Recent forensic findings have provided new leads in the investigation, indicating that Mir Raza Ali fired shots from a pistol with both hands shortly before his death. The report was prepared by the Industrial Analytical Center (IAC) at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi and submitted to the police’s senior investigation team.
The forensic report revealed gunshot residue (GSR) on both of Mir Raza’s hands, suggesting he discharged the weapon himself. Sources noted that the evidence indicates he fired shots with both hands near the crime scene, making suicide unlikely. Experts suggest that he may have fired in self-defense after sensing danger.
Samples from his exhumed body included four GSR specimens, with initial DNA-related results received for some samples, while others are still pending. A total of 17 samples were collected for forensic analysis. Experts have stated that it is highly improbable for an individual to shoot themselves in the back with both hands, leading to further suspicion that the shooting was not self-inflicted.
Additionally, a faint gunshot sound was reportedly captured by a CCTV camera near the scene at approximately 4:37:55–4:37:56 am. A security guard was seen looking around shortly after the sound. The forensic report has been uploaded to the police portal and shared with the investigation committee.
Mir Raza Ali went missing on July 28 after leaving his residence in PECHS Block 2. His bullet-riddled body was discovered the next day in bushes near the University of Karachi, opposite Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
