ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has granted Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), permission to communicate with his sons via phone twice a week.
According to the court’s instructions, family members, political associates, and lawyers of Imran Khan are prohibited from sharing any information regarding his health condition. The court emphasized that such information must not be exploited for political purposes.
Additionally, the Supreme Court ruled that no public gatherings are permitted during Imran Khan’s stay at Shifa International Hospital. It also cautioned that any facilities provided to him could be revoked immediately if the court’s directives are violated.
The court permitted the government and relevant officials to approach it with complaints related to the enforcement of these orders. Imran Khan and his family members also retain the right to seek court intervention on any issues concerning implementation.
Security arrangements during Imran Khan’s hospital stay were instructed to be enhanced, and the court ordered a detailed report on his medical examination, ongoing treatment, and full medical records to be submitted at the next hearing.
The Supreme Court reiterated that being in custody does not negate an individual’s right to humane treatment and proper medical care. It emphasized that the state and judiciary have a constitutional obligation to ensure the health and safety of persons in custody.
The court noted that medical reports suggest a decline in Imran Khan’s health condition. However, it postponed a decision on the maintainability of his petition until the next session, during which the court will also review objections raised by the government.
Parties involved have been directed to submit brief responses before the upcoming hearing.
