ISLAMABAD: A fresh spell of rain, thunderstorms and strong winds is set to sweep across several parts of Pakistan from Monday as a western weather system moves into the country, according to the Meteorological Department.
The weather system is expected to remain active until September 6, bringing rain to parts of upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir and areas surrounding the upper river basins.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi and adjoining districts are likely to experience showers accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms, with isolated areas potentially receiving heavy downpours.
In KP, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Battagram, Peshawar, Nowshera, Abbottabad and Mansehra, among other areas.
Upper Punjab is also likely to receive rainfall, particularly in Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot and Gujrat, where strong winds may accompany the showers.
The forecast extends to Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and the upper regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, with the rainfall expected to lower temperatures and provide relief from the prevailing heat.
Several areas have already received rainfall, including parts of Potohar, Islamabad, KP and Azad Kashmir. Islamabad also witnessed showers coupled with strong winds in different localities.
According to the Met Department, rainfall from August 31 to September 6 could moderately increase water levels and flows in rivers, streams and other waterways.
Meanwhile, most areas of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid. Partly cloudy conditions, however, may persist along coastal areas.
The authorities have urged residents and travellers in mountainous regions to exercise caution, warning that persistent rainfall could trigger landslides and create hazardous travel conditions.
