ISLAMABAD: Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan was reportedly asked to hand over his mobile phone during a late-night meeting in England, with sources claiming that he was told to do so “for Pakistan’s sake”.
According to sources, Rizwan was called from his hotel room to the lobby at around 1:30am, where a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official and an unidentified individual were present.
The sources said Rizwan was questioned about alleged links to online betting companies and gambling activities and was subsequently asked to provide his mobile phone.
Rizwan reportedly refused several times and questioned why his phone was being sought and what allegations had been levelled against him.
The sources said that after repeated requests, Rizwan was told: “Give us your phone for Pakistan’s sake.”
Rizwan subsequently agreed to hand over the device, according to the sources.
He was reportedly assured that the phone would be returned within a few hours. However, with his flight back to Pakistan scheduled for the following day, Rizwan expressed concern about travelling without his mobile phone.
The sources said the cricketer repeatedly asked the team manager about the status of his phone but did not receive a satisfactory response.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and the reasons for taking the phone could not be independently verified from the information available.
