KARACHI: An 18-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her brother in Karachi’s Orangi Town in what police described as an honour-related incident.
Police identified the victim as Zarqa Bibi, whose body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal procedures.
According to police, Zarqa was allegedly shot by her brother, who escaped from the area immediately after the incident. Law enforcement teams were conducting raids to locate and arrest the suspect.
The killing occurred only days after another suspected honour-related murder was reported in the same locality.
Police said Abbas Ali, who had married a woman of his choice, was allegedly gunned down in Sector 10 of Orangi Town by members of his wife’s family. The victim’s in-laws were reportedly unhappy with the marriage.
According to investigators, the alleged main shooter, Abdul Rahim, opened fire on Abbas with the assistance of his maternal uncle Bakht Ali and another accomplice.
The suspects allegedly tried to escape on a motorcycle after the attack, but the motorcycle developed a fault. People present at the scene reportedly caught the suspects.
Police said Bakht Ali was assaulted by members of the public and subsequently died. The firearm allegedly used in the murder was also recovered from the scene.
Authorities said Abbas’s murder case led to the arrest of his wife’s brother and another alleged accomplice, while investigations into the latest killing were continuing.
