ISLAMABAD: The government plans to borrow $500 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support pension reforms, a sum equivalent to about Rs138.48 billion.
The programme, titled the ‘Transforming Public Sector Pension Programme’, is expected to run for three years, from November 1, 2026, to November 2029, according to Finance Ministry sources cited by Geo News. It will also include $159.2 million in technical assistance.
The sources said the loan would be linked to progress on reform targets. The government is seeking changes as the existing pension system places a growing burden on public finances. The federal government’s annual pension bill has reached Rs1,169 billion.
