DC Lahore Proposes March 12–14 Dates for Basant 2027

LAHORE: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore has submitted a proposal to the Punjab government, recommending that Basant 2027 be celebrated in the provincial capital from March 12 to 14.

Under the proposed plan, kite flying would be permitted within Lahore district, except in designated restricted areas. The dates will become official after approval by the Punjab Cabinet.

Authorities have also proposed strict regulations for kite and kite-string production and sales, with the use of only approved materials allowed. Digital registration will be compulsory for manufacturers, while businesses involved in the trade will also be required to meet registration requirements.

According to sources at the DC office, the manufacturing of kites and kite strings will be allowed from September 5, 2026, through March 14, 2027. Their purchase, transportation and storage will be permitted from February 1, 2027, while sales to the general public will begin on February 10.

The proposed rules stipulate that kites and kite strings can only be sold through registered shopkeepers. Manufacturing, purchasing, storing or selling these items without the required registration will be prohibited.

The proposed schedule and regulatory framework aim to govern Basant-related activities in Lahore, subject to the provincial government’s final approval.
